Chicken and Broccoli

Asian Chicken and Broccoli is a delicious and healthy stir-fry dish that combines tender pieces of chicken, crisp broccoli florets, and a savory, homemade Asian-inspired sauce. This dish is not only quick and easy to prepare but also a wonderful way to enjoy the flavors of Asia in the comfort of your own kitchen. Serve it over steamed rice or noodles for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch

For the Chicken and Broccoli:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2-3 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey or brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and sesame oil (if using). Set aside.
  • In another small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. This will be used to thicken the sauce later.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken pieces and stir-fry until they are cooked through and lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.
  • In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until they become bright green and slightly tender.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the broccoli.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and broccoli.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry to the pan to thicken the sauce.
  • Stir everything together and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken and broccoli.
  • Sprinkle sliced green onions and sesame seeds over the dish for garnish, if desired.
  • Serve the Asian Chicken and Broccoli hot over steamed rice or cooked noodles.
