Chile Crisp Condiment

This popular spicy Asian condiment can be made easily at home! The recipe provided below includes fresh ginger and garlic.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup dried minced onion
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced
  • ½ Tbsp fresh ginger, finely minced
  • 2 tsp granulated white sugar
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ cup crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 Tbsp crushed Sichuan peppercorns
  • 2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil

Instructions

  • Heat dried onion, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, sugar, and salt until the ingredients are barely golden in color.
  • Add the crushed red pepper flakes and Sichuan peppercorns and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat and add the toasted sesame seeds.
  • When the oil mixture has cooled, add the sesame oil and stir to combine.
  • Taste and adjust for salt level, adding more if necessary.

Notes

You can store this in your fridge for at least a week after it is made.
The quantity of Sichuan peppercorns and red pepper flakes can be amended based on your personal heat-level preference.
