How to Make the Best Homemade Rice Crispy Treats

Rice crispy treats are the ultimate childhood snack. Growing up, we always had a jar of rice crispy treats in the pantry to get us through a rainy day or as an after-school treat. They’re simple, delicious, and only require a few ingredients to whip up! Let’s take a look at how to make the best homemade rice crispy treats and put the packaged version to shame!

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of rice crispy cereal sometimes called puffed rice
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 bag mini marshmallows
  • pinch of salt
  • nonstick cooking sprayy
  • optional toppings sprinkles, chocolate chips, candy

Instructions

  • Prepare a 10x10 pan by lightly greasing it with nonstick spray.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, mix marshmallows and rice crispies and stir well.
  • Stir continuously until melted, about 3-5 minutes (the mixture will look more like taffy than cereal).
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  • Spread out evenly into your greased pan, add additional toppings.
  • Let cool for at least 20 minutes then cut into squares! Enjoy!
