How to Make a Pad Thai from Scratch

Pad thai is one of the most popular dishes in Thailand, and it’s easy to see why! Traditionally, pad thai consists of stir-fried rice noodles with tofu, egg, green onions, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts mixed in a delicious sweet and savory sauce. Pad thai can be eaten as an appetizer or side dish, but it’s so good that it makes for an excellent main course meal as well!

Ingredients

Stir Fry

  • 1 package protein of choice tofu, shrimp, or chicken
  • 1/2 white onoin chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 green onoins chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of bean sprouts
  • 1/3 cup of chopped peanuts
  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • add any other vegetable of choice we suggest we suggest, sliced bell peppers and chopped broccoli
  • 1 package of rice noodles

Sauce

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of tamarind
  • 3 tablespoons of light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoons of oyster sauce
  • squeeze of fresh lime

Instructions

  • Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl, set aside.
  • In a wok or sautee pan, sautee the garlic and onion for a few minutes in oil. Add in the protein, cook for about 5 minutes. Add in the vegetables and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Create a space in the pan and pour the 2 whisked eggs in. Scramble the eggs and incorporate them with the vegetables and protein.
  • Add the rice noodles (cooked according to the package).
  • Mix in the sauce, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in chopped peanuts, green onion, and lime juice.
  • Serve and garnish with more peanuts and a lime wedge.
